I've a 1999 Rover 1.8 VVC'ed engined car and I'm interested to know what home diagnostic software you can get to read it's error, fault codes, what the ECU see's.
I'm thinking of moving to Oz in a few years and hopefully taking the car, so cost dependant, I thought it might be something useful to have for now and the future, not sure how much of Rover cars got over to Oz.
SeatSo I've the Rover diagnostic port under the dash ready and waiting.

How To Install Rover System

I've heard of Testbook T4 software. Is it as simple as getting the software, installing onto a laptop and then getting a cable to go from the Laptop to the diagnostic plug? My initial findings show that this might be a cheaper route than buying a handheld unit, as this way I've already the expensive of the computer aspect as it were.
Not sure if this is the only software, just one that I've found on my searches relating to Rover diagnostics.
I've heard of a few Bluetooth car diagnostic plugs that can then talk to a tablet (Torque android app)/ PC via Bluetooth which is another option. I looked this up but I'm not 100% sure what port (?) my car has.

Hi,
T4 is difficult to obtain, and your car is very likely a MEMS2j / non-OBD2 compatible motor.
What you want is a thing called T300+, chinese made and roughly £100-£150 depending on supplier/shipping costs.
There is much more information here: http://forums.mg-rover.org/showthread.php?t=454351
